This part of the exam requires you to compare three texts:
- A literary extract: poem, bit of prose or extract from a script
- A transcript of spontaneous speech
- A media or non-fiction extract
There will be a link between the texts (probably subject matter, but it could also
be purpose or audience), but otherwise the texts will be quite different. The paper
will tell you what that link is - it’s not a guessing game.
My best advice here is to:
- Relax - you can all do this! It’s just textual analysis.
- Make sure the frameworks are used in a meaningful way (ie such-and-such a feature
is used BECAUSE or IN ORDER TO).
- Plan before you write.
- Don’t forget to read the question and the information they give you about the texts
- this helps you with audience and purpose at least.
- Revising the frameworks is the most helpful thing to do to prepare for this question.
Use the frameworks section of this site (linked above) to go over the terms and
to get ideas on how to revise frameworks.
