The second part of the exam paper asks you to recast an extract into a new text with
a different audience and purpose to the original. This extract will be taken from
Cupcakes and Kalashnikovs - from the sections we’ve studied (Home and Family; Emancipation
and Having It All; Crime and Punishment). There will also be another question with
an extract from A House Somewhere.
The key things here are to:
- Use the information you are provided with (do NOT make it up).
- Write in an appropriate style for the audience and purpose you are given.
- Use your own words.
- Select the best information for the text you need to produce.
- Plan your writing: organise the information into the best order and note the linguistic
features you should use for the set context.
